Hello there,

I would like to know if there are any studies regarding the combined effect of cigarette smoking and phentermine.  I am curious because the last time I tried phentermine I was a smoker and I felt very “speedy” and restless on it.  I have recently started taking it again and I am now a non-smoker.  My experience with it so far is much more pleasant than I remember.  I am not sure if this is because I started out taking a half dose for the first few days, or if it is because I no longer smoke.

I would appreciate any information, scientific or anecdotal, anyone may have about this.  Thanks!

I’m not aware of any studies showing the combined effects of phentermine and smoking.

However, I imagine what you say is correct, that is, that phentermine plus smoking is likely to be more stimulating than phentermine in a non-smoker.

A couple of doctors—Michael Anchors, MD, PhD and Robert Skversky, MD—have talked about not using caffeine when you take phentermine because of the excess stimulation.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for the quick reply.  Yeah, I stay away from caffeine when taking phentermine.  I find it interesting that some people say that they smoke more when taking Phentermine, the reason being that it has a calming effect.  Nicotine is a stimulant so that doesn’t make any sense.  I can’t remember if I smoked more than average when I took phentermine a few years ago.  Oh well, I guess it doesn’t matter now.

Thanks again

p.s. this discussion forum is so informative, I’m glad it’s here.
