NIGHT EATING SYNDROME
Night Eating Syndrome defined: No appetite for breakfast, half of calories consumed after 7 PM
According to researchers at Centre for Obesity Research and Education at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, a diagnosis of NIght Eating Syndrome requires that within the previous three months a person has:
- No appetite for breakfast.
- Consumes at least half of your calories after 7 PM
- Sleep difficulties at least 3 days a week

Ready-to-eat cereal after dinner causes weight loss of 4.1 lbs in one month
People who were identified themselves as night-snackers, lost an average of 4.1 pounds in one month by eating one serving of "ready-to-eat" cereal and low-fat milk an hour-and-a-half after their evening meal compared to a weight loss of 0.3 pounds for those not eating cereal.

Night eating associated with 11 pound weight gain among women, not men
Night eating affects 9 percent of women and 7.4 percent of men according to a new study from Denmark. Obese women who got up in the middle of the night to eat gained an average of 11.4 pounds in six years compared to 2 pounds for those who did not get up to eat.

People with night eating syndrome suffer more depression
A history of major depression is much more common among obese people with night eating syndrome than obese people without this syndrome according to a 1955 study (Stunkard et al, 1955, unpublished data as referenced in Stunkard et al, 2003).
