HYPOTHYROIDISM

Desiccated thyroid can solve some infertility problems notes Mark Starr, MD

Desiccated thyroid can solve some infertility problems notes Mark Starr, MD in his book Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic.

"With few exceptions, the patients I have seen with fertility problems, suffered hypothyroidism," Dr. Starr writes in his book.

"Yet, modern texts continue to refute hypothyroidism as a major cause of infertility and miscarriages.

"Again, the main problem is that affected women and men usually have normal thyroid blood tests."

"In 1914, Dr. Hertoghe stated, 'We may assert that thyroid extract has proved in scores of cases an excellent remedy for otherwise inexplicable sterility.'

"Dr. Barnes’ chapter, 'Menstrual Disorders, Fertility Problems, and Avoiding Needless Surgery,' provided additional research and medical journal references supporting the efficacy of thyroid hormones in the treatment of infertility.

"A growing number of my patients have become pregnant after failing expensive and painful fertility treatments." Read the entire article | Email this article

TYPE 2 HYPOTHYROIDISM

Desiccated thyroid (Armour) is superior to synthetic thyroid hormones for treating hypothyroidism

"In over 40 years of practice, Dr. Siegal [ the author of the book 'Is Your Thyroid Making You Fat' ] found in treating thousands of patients that desiccated thyroid (Armour) was much more effective than synthetic thyroid hormones," Mark Starr, MD noted in his wonderful book Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic.

"Dr. Zondek also reported the superior efficacy of desiccated thyroid over synthetic thyroid hormone in the treatment of the 'obese form' of hypothyroidism in his 1926 textbook, Diseases of the Endocrine Glands... [and] had not changed his opinion by the time the forth edition was published in 1944." Read the entire article | Email this article

DESICCATED THYROID

Woman gains 30 lbs & severe fatigue when desiccated thyroid cut from 4 grains to 2 grains, Dr. Starr

In this one-minute audio clip, Mark Starr, MD tells about a woman who had taken 4 grains (260 mg) of desiccated thyroid for more than 50 years. However, after he doctor died, a university endocrinologist cut her dose in half, down to 2 grains (130 mg) and told her how awful it was for her to take 4 grains. However, after doing this, she gained 30 lbs in 3 months, experienced extreme fatigue, had difficulty speaking and could not balance her checkbook.

All of her symptoms resolved once she resumed taking 4 grains.

This story is to point out that modern medicine has been led to believe that the higher doses of desiccated thyroid are dangerous, even though these are the dosages that were used for a long time by many of the great thyroid experts of all time -- an average of 3.5 grains in a long-term study by Jacques Hertoghe, MD. THYROID & MITOCHONDRIA

Hypothyroidism reduces mitochondria; involved in congestive heart failure, Alzheimers, etc, Dr Starr

Hypothyroidism reduces the number and activity of mitochondria, the energy-producing cells, notes Mark Starr, MD, author of the wonderful book Hypothyroidism Type 2: The Epidemic.

Mitochondria make up one-third of the weight of the heart muscle, Dr. Starr notes in this short audio clip from a speech he gave in 2007 at an Orthomolecular Conference.

This appears to the connection as to how hypothyroidism can cause some forms of congestive heart failure where the heart muscle is too weak to pump enough blood to the rest of the body (cardiomyopathy). It's an energy problem.

Dr. Starr's book contains the wonderful "Before" and "After" pictures showing X-rays of enlarge hearts that shrink back to normal size after the patient is given natural desiccated thyroid.

A decrease in mitochondria also appears to be the connection of hypothyroidism to Alzheimer's, which Dr. Starr noted in another audio clip. Again, it's an energy problem. Read the entire article | Email this article

NATURAL DESICCATED THYROID

Hypothyroidism increases deaths from infections, heart attacks, cancer and emphysema, Mark Starr, MD

Thyroid expert, Broda Barnes, MD, PhD found that heart attacks increased in Graz, Austria from one in 125 to one in 14 after antibiotics were introduced which prevented early deaths from tuberculosis, Mark Starr, MD notes in this audio clip.

After analyzing 70,000 autopsies, Barnes also noted that prior to 1945 when antibiotics were introduced, people dying of tuberculosis had advanced atherosclerosis in their coronary arteries. After the introduction of antibiotics which prevented these deaths, deaths from heart attacks increased nearly 9-fold, from one in 125 deaths, to one in 14 deaths.

Barnes also found that those dying of heart attacks, had evidence that they had had tuberculosis in their lungs.

He then realized that hypothyroidism was the cause of both conditions.

He also found that deaths from various cancers and emphysema increased 3-fold or more, suggesting to Barnes that hypothyroidism increases the risk of cancer and emphysema, and that treated people with desiccated thyroid might reduce the risk.

(In a speech Barnes gave, he noted that cancer deaths in his patients treated with desiccated thyroid were about half the national average in the U.S.)

DESICCATED THYROID VS SYNTHROID

Natural desiccated thyroid dramatically improved symptoms more than Synthroid (T4), Mark Starr, MD

Third generation clinical endocrinologist, Dr. Jacques Hertoghe found that symptoms of hypothyroidism -- fatigue, depression, cold intolerance, constipation, headaches, muscle cramps, joint and muscle pain (rheumatoid), and slow achilles reflex -- were dramatically reduced when patients were switched from Synthroid (T4 thyroid hormone) to Natural Desiccated Thyroid.

Switching patients from Synthroid (T4 thyroid hormone) to Natural Desiccated Thyroid reduced constipation from 40% of patients to 14% of patients.

Switching patients from Synthroid (T4) to Natural Desiccated Thyroid reduced headache from 55% of patients to 15% of patients.

Switching patients from Synthroid (T4) to Natural Desiccated Thyroid reduced muscle cramps from 56% of patients to 9% of patients.

TYPE 2 HYPOTHYROIDISM

Many patients have Type 2 hypothyroidism with normal TSH levels, Mark Starr, MD

“I began to realize how pervasive this problem was in my pain patients. [People who have normal thyroid blood tests (TSH levels), but still have hypothyroidism based on their symptoms],” Mark Starr, MD notes in this audio clip from a speech he gave at a 2007 Orthomolecular Conference.

“[Out of 162 of his pain patients whose TSH levels were normal, indicating normal thyroid, I found that]...”
  • “96% had pain...”

  • “84% had dry skin...”

  • “82% [had] fatigue,

  • brittle nails...

  • menstrual problems...

  • depression was present in over half of my pain patients...

  • moderate to marked myxedema [in] 54%... [puffiness of the skin]”.
Note: The point Dr. Starr is making is that among his pain patients whose TSH levels indicated normal thyroid function, a very high percentage had hypothyroidism based on their symptoms.

Dr. Starr has defined this as Type 2 Hypothyroidism, where TSH levels are normal, but people still have hypothyroidism that requires treatment with natural desiccated thyroid.

Natural Desiccated Thyroid vs Synthroid (T4)

Dr. Starr shows that Natural Desiccated Thyroid is VASTLY SUPERIOR to Synthroid (T4)

In this audio clip, Dr. Starr also shows that Natural Desiccated Thyroid is VASTLY SUPERIOR to Synthroid (T4).

In fact, he shows that symptoms of hypothyroidism WERE NO BETTER in people on Synthroid (T4) than people taking no thyroid at all!

HYPOTHYROIDISM AND CHOLESTEROL

Cholesterol dropped from 240 to 150, triglycerides from 500 to 100 with thyroid, Mark Starr, MD

Mark Starr, MD's cholesterol levels had increased from 150 when he was in medical school to 240 when he was 40-years-old and feeling really ill. He suspected he might have hypothyroidism, but his blood tests (TSH levels) were normal, and the endocrinologist at the University where he had trained told him that his thyroid was fine, and that he was just working too hard. However, after read the old medical literature and realized that he had hypothyroidism, and started taking 4 grains of desiccated thyroid, his cholesterol levels dropped from 240 to 150, and his triglycerides fell from 500 to less than 100.

TYPE 2 HYPOTHYROIDISM

Type 2 hypothyroidism is NOT detected by blood tests, Mark Starr, MD

"Type 1 Hypothyroidism I’ve defined as failure of the thyroid gland to produce sufficient amounts of thyroid hormones necessary to maintain normal blood levels of those hormones and normal blood levels of the thyroid stimulating hormone, the TSH, produced by the pituitary gland." notes Mark Starr, MD in this audio clip from a speech he gave at a 2007 Orthomolecular Conference.

"Type 2 Hypothyroidism is peripheral resistance to thyroid hormones at the cellular level."

"It is NOT due to a lack of thyroid hormones."

"Normal amounts of thyroid hormones and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) are usually detected by blood tests."
