Half of Weight Watchers lifetime members maintain 5% weight loss for 5 years
Out of 916 lifetime members of the commercial weight loss program Weight Watchers, 80% maintained a 5% weight loss after one year, 71% maintained a 5% weight loss after two years, and 50% maintained a 5% weight loss after five years. This according to an analysis by researchers at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. "The current sample comprises only the most successful Weight Watchers participants," the authors of the paper noted. "However, these results provide further evidence that maintenance of weight loss in those who successfully lose weight in one commercial weight-loss programme is more feasible than data from clinical populations have suggested," they concluded.
