    Children 6- to 11-years-old drank four times as much milk as any other beverage in 1977-1978, but only 1.5 times as much milk as soft drinks by 1994-1996 according to the Institute of Medicine's report on Childhood Obesity (2004, p. 33). Adolescents drank 1.5 times as much milk as any other beverage in 1977, but only 0.5 times as much by 1996

    Adolescents 12- to 19-years-old consumed 1.5 times as much milk as any other beverage in 1977-1978, but by 1994-1996 were consuming only half as much milk as soft drinks according to the Institute of Medicine’s report on Childhood Obesity (2004, p. 33).

    From 1970 to 1997, milk consumption per capita in the U.S. decreased from 31 gallons to 24 gallons, however, cheese consumption increased 146 percent, from 11 pounds per person to 28 pounds per person according to the Institute of Medicine’s report on Childhood Obesity (2004, p. 32).
