Korean Red Ginseng extract has an anti-obesity effect in growing rats according to a study from Korea. 37% less weight gain on normal diet, 27% less on high-fat diet
Growing rats on a normal diet gained 37 percent less weight when given the extract, and rats on a high-fat diet gained 27 percent less weight during the two month study.
Reduced food intake 22% on normal diet, 11% on high-fat diet
The extract reduced weight gain by reducing food intake.
The extract reduced food intake by 22 percent for rats on a normal diet and 11 percent for rats on a high-fat diet.
Extract was crude saponin of Korean Red Ginseng
The extract used was the crude saponin of Korean Red Ginseng, an ingredient found in the material.
Conclusion: Korean Red Ginseng extract reduces body weight, food intake and fat storage
“In conclusion, [Crude Saponin of Korean Red Ginseng] has been shown to exert anti-obesity effects in rats fed with [high-fat] diet by reducing of body weight, food consumption, and fat storage… but [human] studies are required to verify this,” the paper concludes.
