Women lost 9-10% of body weight in three months on very low calorie diet

White women lost 10 percent of their body weight in three months, black women lost 9 percent, following a very low calorie diet of 500 to 800 calories per day in addition to exercise and behavioral counseling according to a new study from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). 40-41% of the obese women had metabolic syndrome
Forty percent of black women and 41 percent of white women had metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance).
Decreased blood sugar, cholesterol, triglycerides, blood pressure
The weight loss caused decreases in blood sugar, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure.
Subjects: 304 black and white women
The study included 152 obese black women and 152 obese white women.
“Obese patients, independent of race, were able to achieve significant weight loss when enrolled in a structured outpatient program,” the authors concluded.
