This is a sad commentary on our society and is a direct reflection of the impact of the USDA food pyramid which was funded by the agriculture industry. Our health care system stands to be crippled by the impact of obesity-related illness such as diabetes, cancer and heart disaes if this trend goes unchecked. The only way out of this dilema is proper diet (I prefer a low glycemic index diet rich in fruits and vegetables, low fat protein and healthy fats such as the Zone) and exercise. Hormonal optimization can also help greatly. Last night I happened to watch the movie "Supersize Me" which illustrates the point well. Dr. Smith at http://www.antiagingatlanta.com

Thanks for your input.
Supersize me was interesting. Not a controlled experiment, but it was interesting to see how much of an impact it had on his health in just a month.
