Glucomannan causes 7 lbs weight loss in two months

Patients given a glucomannan supplement lost an average of 5.5 pounds in two months compared to a weight gain of 1.5 pounds for those given a placebo according to one study.
Study design: 20 overweight people given 1,000 mg of glucomannan or a placebo before meals
A group of 20 people weighing 132 to 218 lbs (averaging 53% over their ideal weight) were given either 1 gram of glucomannan (1,000 mg) or a placebo 1 hour before each meal (3 grams/day).
Subjects told not to change eating habits
Patients were told not to change their eating habits.
Cholesterol levels fell by 11%
Patients taking glucomannan also reduced total cholesterol by 11% (198 down to 176 mg/dl) and “bad” LDL cholesterol by 12% (125 down to 110 mg/dl).
No change in HDL cholesterol
Levels of “good” HDL cholesterol did not change.
Relief from mild constipation
Several patients taking glucomannan reported relief from mild constipation.
