People trying to follow a diet by using meal replacement shakes lost 9 pounds more than people not using the shakes according to a recent study.

Those trying to follow a 1200 calorie per day diet by using soy-based meal replacement shakes lost an average of 15.6 pounds in three months compared to 6.4 pounds for those simply trying to diet.
Everyone was one session of dietary advice and a pamphlet describing weight loss.
Subjects: 100 people, BMI 28-41, ages 35-65
The study involved 100 overweight and obese people with a body mass index (BMI) of 28 to 41 who were 35- to 65-years-old.
Seventy-four of them finished the study.
