1200 mg of glucomannan plus guar gum plus alginate before meals increased weight loss by 3.8 lbs

Women given a combination of the dietary fibers glucomannan, guar gum and alginate, lost and who were on a 1200 calorie per day diet lost an average of 9.7 pounds in five weeks compared to 5.9 pounds for those given a placebo, a difference of 3.8 pounds, according to a study from the University of Tromso in Tromso, Norway. Doses
Doses: 1200 mg of glucomannan, 240 mg of guar gum and 240 mg of alginate before each meal
Subjects took 6 tablets fifteen minutes before each meal and 4 tablets at 3 PM.
The fiber supplement they took was called Glucosahl.
Each tablet contained:
- 200 mg of glucomannan
- 40 mg of guar gum
- 40 mg of alginate
Note: Alginate comes from seaweed.
This means that before each meal they took:
- 1200 mg of glucomannan
- 240 mg of guar gum
- 240 mg of alginate
And at 3 PM they took
- 800 mg of glucomannan
- 160 mg of guar gum
- 160 mg of alginate
The total daily intake of each of the dietary fibers was:
- 4320 mg of glucomannan
- 900 mg of guar gum
- 900 mg of alginate
Subjects: 53 women
The study involved 53 moderately overweight women with a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 30, ages 30- to 60-years-old.
