1-2 cups of coffee per day cuts risk of diabetes in half

People who drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day are 53 percent less likely to develop diabetes according to a study from Greece. More than 3 Cups per Day
No effect on diabetes in people drinking more than 3 cups per day
Those drinking more than 3 cups per day were 5 percent more likely develop diabetes, but this was not statistically significant, meaning that it could have been due to random chance.
Conclusion: 1-2 cups of coffee reduces the risk of diabetes
“The data presented suggest that moderate coffee drinking [1-2 cups per day] is associated with a lower likelihood of having diabetes, after adjusting for various potential confounders,” the authors concluded.
“Increased coffee intake [more than 3 cups per day] [is] not associated with diabetes prevalence.”
Subjects: 500 men, 437 women, 65-100 years-old
The study looked at 500 men and 437 women who were 65- to 100-years-old who were from the Mediterranean islands of Cyprus, Mitilini, Samothraki, Cephalonia, Corfu and Crete.
84% drank coffee
Eighty-four percent (84%) of participants reported drinking coffee.
Drank coffee for 30 years
Coffee drinkers reported that they had consumed coffee for at least 30 years.
A majority of them drank boiled coffee.

A number of other studies have also reported that coffee lowers the risk of diabetes.
