Men on a low carbohydrate diet lost nearly twice as much weight as those on a low fat diet -- 17.6 pounds versus 9.7 pounds -- despite eating

The study involved 15 men and 13 women who were 20- to 55-years-old and had more than 25 percent body fat.

The men, on average, weighed 240 pounds at the beginning of the study.
