Girls who ate at least three meals per day have a lower body weight for their age and Black girls who met this criteria were less likely to be overweight according to a study from researchers at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Subjects
The study analyzed food diaries from “1209 Black girls (539 age nine years, 670 age 10 years) and 1,166 White girls (616 age nine years, 550 age 10 years) were enrolled in the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute Growth and Health Study (NGHS).”
Those who ate at least three meals per day had a lower body mass index (BMI) for their age than girls who ate meals less often than this.
“Black girls, but not white girls, who ate 3+ meals on more days were less likely to meet criteria for overweight,” the study noted.
