    Alcoholics Must Avoid Sugar

Alcoholics must avoid sugar according to Joan Mathews Larson, PhD

Joan Mathews Larson, PhD, an addiction specialist, treating people for alcohol and drug addiction, anxiety and depression for 30 years, has said that it is absolutely essential for alcoholics to avoid sugar and other refined carbohydrates.

Sugar initially raises blood sugar, but then blood sugar falls, a concept known as “reactive hypoglycemia”.

Alcoholics Drink to Raise Blood Sugar

Alcoholics drink in order to raise blood sugar and feel better

She notes that alcoholics drink alcohol as a reaction to the hypoglycemia, that is low blood sugar, in order to raise their blood sugar and feel better.

She says that alcohol raises blood sugar faster than anything else.

In other works, alcoholics drink alcohol as a way “self medicating” to correct their low blood sugar to feel better.

Alcoholism is a Physical Disease, Not a Psycholical Disease

Dr. Larson has figured out, as Roger Williams, MD figured out a long time ago, alcoholism is a physical disease—a biochemical problem—not a psychological problem.

Alcoholism and drug addiction are not caused by a lack of will power.

    I Highly Recommend Dr. Larson

I highly recommend Dr. Larson and her books

Anyone who has a problem with alcoholism, drug addiction, anxiety or depression, I strongly suggest they read these books, and contact Dr. Larson for additional help.

She treats people with these conditions without using prescription drugs or “talk therapy”, which, in the case of alcoholism, she notes does not work, but instead she does lab tests to determine biochemical problems, and treats people with nutritional supplements to correct these problem.

I cannot stress how strongly I believe in her approach.

Videos of Joan Mathews Larson talking about Addiction and Depression

A one-hour video of Dr. Larson giving a speech about treating alcohlism and addiction can be purchased for $5 here.

A 53 minute video of Dr. Larson giving a speech about treating anxiety and depression, which she calls “Dual Diagnosis” can be purchased for $5 here.

A 34 minute audio interview of Dr. Larson can be purchased for $3 here.

I have nothing to do with these videos or audio, but I have watched them, and read her book “7 Weeks to Emotional Healing” and find the information absolutely fascinating.

If you think prescription drugs are the answer to anxiety and depression, or think that “talk therapy” such as Alcoholics Anonymous is the answer to addiction, watch these videos and listen to her interviewed. You will change your mind.
