"[ The sale of psychiatric drugs is ] marketing… not science… It has nothing to do with science," says former drug sales rep Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau in this YouTube video.

Kathleen was a sales rep for the drug industry for 10 years.

"We did a lot of lunches and dinners, and brought in speakers, and those speakers were, obviously, paid by us.

"And we would waive the renowned studies at them from renowned journals, but, of course, we would never say that these studies were paid for by our [ drug ] company…

"And that the [ paper ] was written by a ghost writer who was paid by our [ drug ] company…

"Or that our [ drug ] company does a ton of advertising in that particular medical journal.

    "We'd never say that.

Kathleen is with The Citizens Commission on Human Rights.

A related organization is the The Citizens Commission on Human Rights International.

Comment: I would contend this is true for all drugs -- cholesterol drugs, blood pressure drugs, diabetes drugs, sleep drugs, etc, not just psychiatric drugs. The ridiculous notion of "Prehypertension" is an example of this. More on this below. Psychiatric Market is Huge

    The Psychiatric Market is Huge

    “The psychiatric market is huge.”

“Every company out there wants a little piece of that pie because it is so lucrative.

“It’s the psychiatric meds that are so easy to expand and to all the problems of our life.

    Medical-izing Everything

The drug industry is medical-izing of everything to sell more drugs

“So right now we see the industry… or over the last several years we’ve seen industry medicalizing so many different things in our life.

“If you’re shy, here, take a pill.

“If your little anxious, here, take a pill.

“If you have Road Rage, we have a pill for that too.

    They Play on Our Insecurities

The drug industry plays on our insecurities

“They have been able, through direct to consumer advertising and the beautiful drug advertising on television, they have been able to play on our deepest insecurities as human beings, and it is so effective.”

    It’s About Profits

The drug industry number one goal is to sell more drugs

“The [ drug ] industry is responsible to Wall Street, and Wall Street first.

“They have to please Wall Street because they are all private industry.”

“So, when you have that scenario, you have to make profits your number one goal.”

    Comments

I believe this is true for all drugs

Comment from Larry Hobbs: I would contend this is true for all drugs—cholesterol drugs, blood pressure drugs, diabetes drugs, sleep drugs, etc, not just psychiatric drugs.

    Here is an example.

    Prehypertension

    The Ridiculous Concept of Prehypertension

Some time in the last 10 years or so, the drug companies convinced researchers to define a new condition called “Prehypertension”.

When they first defined this, the cutoff was anything above 135/85 mm Hg. This was completely ridiculous.

I could not believe that any doctors would be foolish enough to believe this nonsense.

The Current Blood Pressure Paradigm is Wrong

UCLA statistician proved it was wrong in 2000

A paper by UCLA statistician Sid Port published in the Lancet in 2000 proved that the current paradigm that has been believed since 1968 is dead wrong.

Keys proved it was wrong in 1980

A man by the name of Keys also proved it was wrong in 1980—29 years ago—and yet nothing has been done to correct this!

If you read Sid Port paper and understand it, you will find that it is undeniable.

The Current Blood Pressure Paradigm Does Not Allow for ‘Normal Blood Pressure’

The Current Blood Pressure Paradigm Does Not Allow for ‘Normal Blood Pressure’

The current paradigm, that is, the idea that “the lower your blood pressure, the lower the risk of death”, does not allow for “normal blood pressure”.

If the current paradigm were true, then why not try to lower your blood pressure to 115? And why stop there, why not lower it to 110… then 105… then 100… and 90… and 80… and 70… ?

When you think about the ridiculousness of this, you will realize that it cannot possibly be true.

No Studies Showing Benefit to Lowering Moderately Elevated Blood Pressure

No Studies Showing Benefit to Lowering Moderately Elevated Blood Pressure

Sid Port’s paper also notes that there has NEVER been a study showing benefit to lowering blood pressure in people with moderately elevated blood pressure. Never.

I imagine that many doctors and laypeople assume, “Well, surely it can’t hurt to take these blood pressure drugs and lower my blood pressure [ or diabetes drugs, etc ].”

    WRONG!

I recently reviewed a 2004 study which showed that in older “hypertensive” women, in 7 out of 8 drug groups the risk of death from cardiovascular disease was GREATER in women given these drugs or drug combinations compared to “hypertensive” women taking no blood pressure drugs even though the systolic blood pressure was 10-15 points LOWER in the drug groups!

    See here.

My interpretations is that lowering moderately elevated blood pressure with drugs is something that should be avoided.

I also believe that potassium bicarbonate is VASTLY superior to all the blood pressure drugs for improving health.

    The Lie about Blood Pressure

The lie about blood pressure is to sell more drugs

The idea that “the lower your blood pressure, the lower your risk of death” is a complete and total lie perpetuated by the drug companies to sell more drugs.

This lie has been spread since 1968 with the release of the Framingham Study so the drug companies can scaring people into taking their drugs. “You better take our drugs or else you are going to die.”

    It makes me sick.

    Prehypertension Redefined to 120/80

Prehypertension recently redefined to anything about 120/80 mm Hg!

However, the cutoff for the nonsensical idea of “Prehypertension” has recently—I don’t know exactly when because I just became aware of it—been lowered to anything about 120/80 mm Hg!

This is the same as saying that if your ideal weight is 160 pounds, that your are “Pre-Obese” if your weight is 161 pounds or more!

They have done the same thing with diabetes, inventing “Pre-Diabetes” also.

    It’s the same nonsense.

How Can Everyone Be So Blind?

How Can Everyone Be So Blind?

I am shocked that it appears that all of mainstream medicine, such as The Mayo Clinic have bought into this nonsense!

How can everyone be so blind?!
