Drug and alcohol problems are the result of biochemical glitches. They are not caused by a lack of will power and cannot be solved with talk therapy. Prescription drugs such as Prozac cannot correct these problems either. I believe the exact same thing is true for anxiety and depression.

In this audio clip, you will hear Dr. Julian Whitaker describe the research of American biochemist, Dr. Roger Williams.

He found that "alcoholic" rats could be cured of their desire for alcohol with large doses of nutrients.

You will then hear Dr. Whitaker interview Joan Mathews Larson, PhD whose son committed suicide about 30 years ago after returning from talk therapy.

Dr. Larson committed her life to finding a better way, and came across the research of Dr. Roger Williams.

(Note: The video clip includes both part 1 and part 2.)

Anxiety and Depression extremely common among alcholics

Dr. Larson Notes Nearly All Her Clients Suffer from Anxiety and Depression

Dr. Larson notes that just about everyone who walks through the doors of her clinic are anxious and depressed.

People with drug and alcohol problems are using drugs and alcohol to temporarily relieve themselves of their anxiety & depression.

    Proper Nutrition, Not Drugs

The solution is proper nutrition and large doses of nutrients, not drugs

The cure is not prescription drugs, but proper nutrition and large doses of certain nutrients.

    Transcript of the Videos

Here is the transcript of the videos of Dr. Whitaker and Dr. Larson

We are deluded that alcoholics are suffering from a character disorder, and that if he is just given the right axioms to follow, that he can remake his character in such a way that he can shun the terrible cravings that are driving him to self destruction.

    What are causing these cravings?

In the late-1950’s, Dr. Roger Williams did an experiment with rats.

He offered the rats either 100% water or an alcohol/water mixture (50% alcohol, 50% water).

He gave them regular Purina Chow. (Regular rat chow.)

He found that about 10% of the rats became alcoholic.

This is about the same percentage as in humans who are alcoholic.

He then reduced the amount of vitamins and minerals given to the rats.

He found that most of the rats became alcoholic.

He then gave them large doses of vitamins and minerals.

These alcoholic rats lost their desire for alcohol.

Roger Williams determined that humans have individual requirements for nutrients (vitamins and minerals).

For example, in his book “Nutrition Against Disease” (1971), Dr. Williams states

“Observations on human infants show conclusively that some infants have very high vitamin B6 requirements.”

“Some appear to need even 8 to 40 times usual.”
—Roger Williams, PhD Nutrition Against Disease, 1971, p. 81

So the treatment for alcoholism is, first and foremost, large doses of vitamins and minerals.

So the treatment for alcoholism is, first and foremost, large doses of vitamins and minerals.

    But that’s not done.

Joan Mathews Larson, PhD does this at her treatment center, “Health Recovery Center” in Minneapolis, MN.

Dr. Larson lost a 17-year-old son to suicide after going through “talk therapy” for alcohol problems.

IIt set her on a mission to find a better way.

She came across the work Dr. Roger Williams had done with rats.

She opened “Health Recovery Center” in 1981.

They treat people with drug and alcohol problems, and people with anxiety and depression.

It was startling what I found on that mission.

It absolutely contradicted everything that was being done in the name of treatment.

And, in fact, that model is still out there.

[The mistaken belief that “talk therapy” can solve the problem as is done in Alcoholics Anonymous.]

What is being done in the name of treatment for alcoholism?

Sitting in a group telling total strangers all of the mistakes of your life is very big in treatment.

    It’s all “Talk Therapy”.

There is no consideration that this is a physical disease that will finally kill the person and does in most cases.

TThat is one of the major paradigms of alcohol treatment that is not appropriate. [Talk therapy cannot possibly solve the problem.]

    Alcoholism is a medical condition.

[Alcoholism is not a character flaw, nor is it due to a lack of willpower.]

What people want, and what they pay for when they come for help is they want the cravings to stop.

That was one of the first things we discovered how to do back in 1981.

It was treating the hypoglycemia the sugar fluctuations.

Alcohol raises blood sugar faster than candy bars.

[Alcoholics drink to quickly raise their blood sugar to help them feel better when their blood sugar is low.

Their ability to handle that type of thing is way out of whack. [The ability to properly regulate blood sugar when consuming carbohydrates is faulty.]

Alcoholics are hypoglycemic. Their body pours out insulin [after consuming sugar which causes their blood sugar to fall.]

And their brain has no more fuel [so they fell lousy which drives them to drink in order to relieve this.]

At that point, the brain signals for sugar, but they want alcohol because they know how fast alcohol relieves that.

At that point, the brain signals for sugar, but they want alcohol because they know how fast alcohol relieves that.

So the first thing we did was start running lab tests.

Lab tests either prove or disprove the point.

Then you don’t have to argue about it.

[When we tested alcoholics we found that all of them were either hypoglycemic or moving into diabetes.

So you were treating their metabolic condition that was causing their cravings. Correct?

    Yes. Absolutely.

Many patients of mine, all of whom are on large doses of vitamins and minerals, say they just don’t want the alcohol.

Back in the very beginning, we gave shots [injections] of the B vitamins twice a week very high doses.

Clients thought we were giving them some type of amphetamine.

It gave them back their energy.

    They felt great.

It was the fastest way to bypass what was usually an allergic gut that did not absorb [these nutrients] very well.

It was the fastest way to bypass what was usually an allergic gut that did not absorb [these nutrients] very well.

WWe gave injections of all the B-vitamins.

I am still intrigued that [this information has been out there since the 1950’s and yet people are still being told that “talk therapy” is the answer.]

There are doctors and orthomolecular psychiatrists who are doing parts of this type of treatment, but the number [is very small].

There are doctors and orthomolecular psychiatrists who are doing parts of this type of treatment, but the number [is very small] compared to the traditional 12 Step Program.

There are doctors and orthomolecular psychiatrists who are doing parts of this type of treatment, but the number [is very small] compared to the traditional 12 Step Program which nobody attacks because what would you say against a spiritual approach except it has nothing to do with the physical disease, and it doesn’t work.

The success with Alcoholics Anonymous is very small less than 5%. [More than a 95% failure rate. Talk therapy doesn’t work.]

The idea that Alcoholics Anonymous has kept from its members what science has to offer through all these years is inexplicable.

These are the very people that have to know.

There are several things that people need when they come to treatment.

They want the cravings to stop.

And [nearly] everyone [is anxious and depressed.]

    They want that stopped too.

They used to use alcohol [to temporarily relieve their anxiety and depression.]

So that needs to be dealt with [the anxiety and depression.]

The best approach for that is a lot of labs [lab tests] to identify [what is causing the anxiety and depression.]

    Comments

Additional comments by me This is one thing that modern psychiatry does NOT do. Modern psychiatry doesn’t do ANY lab tests. None. Instead, modern psychiatry makes all their diagnoses by looking in a book. I believe the reason for this is the drug companies. I believe the the drug companies don’t want doctors to have this information. They don’t want them doing lab tests. My guess is that the drug companies have done lab tests before and after giving people prescription antidepressants and other psychiatric drugs, and found that the drugs either they DON’T improve lab values, or that the drugs make these values WORSE. Therefore, the drug companies have brainwashed doctors and psychiatrists into believing that anxiety and depression and other psychiatric disorders should be diagnosed by looking in a book rather than doing lab tests. I also imagine that the drug companies realize that if doctors and psychiatrists were to do these lab tests they would quickly figure out that natural treatments, such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids are SUPERIOR to drugs and correct the underlying problem as would be proven by doing these lab tests. So in order to protect their billions of dollars in profits the drug companies have convinced doctors to make their diagnosis from a book rather than by doing lab tests. Can you imagine your doctor giving you a drug for blood pressure without checking your blood pressure first? Can you imagine your doctor giving you a drug for cholesterol without checking your cholesterol first? Most doctors even run a test before they will give you an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection. And yet when it comes to antidepressants and other psychiatric drugs, they don’t do any lab tests. I imagine a hundred years from now they look back on this time and say, “Can you believe how stupid they were back then?”
