Disruption of our circadian rhythm increases the risk of cognitive impairment

Disruption of our natural circadian rhythm, called chronodisruption, can aggravate "cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia or Parkinson’s disease" according to a recent paper by researchers at the University of Murcia in Murcia, Spain. “Finally, cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia or Parkinson’s disease can be aggravated by [chronodisruption], as is observed when such sufferers spend too much time indoors or in a constant environment such as hospital wards or in intensive care units,” the authors note.
