In this seven-minute audio clip, Jonathan Wright, MD notes that bioidentical hormones (and all other hormones) should NOT be taken orally, but rather applied transmucosally (applied to a mucous membrane; inside the labia for women, and on the perianal mucosa for men (the same place a hemorrhoid would develop).)
He notes that, for example, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are released into the blood stream, go to the heart, and then are distributed to the tissues BEFORE they pass through the liver.
He notes that if we take hormones ORALLY, they go to the liver first, where it is the liver’s job to GET RID OF THEM.
Dr. Wright notes that he ALWAYS tries to COPY NATURE.
He said that he USED TO apply these hormones transdermally (applied to the skin), however, back in the 1980’s he had a woman tell him that the hormones were no longer working, and she had been rotating where on the skin that she was applying the hormones.
When he checked her blood levels, he found that her hormone levels were FALLING.
He had this woman switch from applying the hormones transdermally to a transmucosal administration, applying the hormones inside the labia, and using the SAME prescription, her hormone levels came back up to where they had been.
After doing so, she said, “I feel better!”
He notes that the same thing happens with men who apply testosterone on the skin.
It works for awhile, and then hormone levels fall.
So he has men apply testosterone to the perianal mucosa (the mucosal membrane around the anus, where a hemorrhoid would develop.)
He notes that for men, this is the ONLY mucous membrane in the groin area, which allows testosterone to enter the body into the bloodstream in the same area that it normally comes from.

Jonathan Wright, MD is the author of the fantastic book on bioidentical hormone replacement, Stay Young & Sexy with Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement: The Science Explained (2009).
Dr. Wright is a pioneer in natural medicine and the doctor who started bioidentical hormone replacement in the US back in 1982 when he combined three bio-identical estrogens in the same ratio found naturally in young, healthy women into a compound called Tri-Estrogen or Tri-Est.
I will post articles summarizing highlights from the book, but for now, I am posting a few audio clips from an interview on the same topic that Joseph Mercola, DO (Mercola.com) did with Jonathan Wright, MD.
Best Book on the Topic
Dr. Mercola says Dr. Wright’s book is the BEST book on the topic
Dr. Mercola, who did the interview, says that Jonathan Wright, MD’s book “Stay Young and Sexy with Bioidentical Hormones: The Science Explained” is the BEST book he has ever read on the topic.
Dr. Mercola says, “It really is brilliant.”
He goes on to say that “It is a phenomenal resource, and should be in everyone’s library who has any type of interest in this area, certainly any clinician who is taking care of women.”
Dr. Mercola notes that when he first started practicing medicine, he was paid by the drug companies to fly around and give speeches to doctors to tell them about the benefits of hormone replacement therapy.
After hearing Dr. Mercola say how good it was, I finally started reading it.
It is fabulous.
I encourage everyone to read it.
