Obesity reduces life expectancy in U.S. men at age 50 years by 1.85 years as of 2006 according to a study by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.
“The United States has the highest prevalence of obesity and one of the lowest life expectancies among high-income countries,” the researchers noted.
The higher rate of obesity in the U.S. explains 67% of the shortfall in life expectancy among U.S. men compared to other high-income countries according to the study.
