“Vioxx [ rofecoxib, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a Cox-2 inhibitor ] is estimated to have killed about 30,000 people,” says Prof. Peter Gotzsche, MD in this video clip.
“Merck HID cases of myocardial infarction [ heart attacks ].”
“There was the VIGOR trial.
[ VIOXX Gastrointestinal Outcomes Research Trial ].”
“Where was it published?
In the New England Journal of Medicine which is the favorite journal by drug companies.”
“Three (3) cases of myocardial infarction [ heart attacks ] had been deleted [ from the published study. ]”
“Almost one million [ 1,000,000 ] reprints was [sic] bought by Merck.”
“So this journal [ the New England Journal of Medicine ] has a HUGE conflict of interest.”
At the beginning of his speech, Prof. Peter Gotzsche, MD says,
“What the drug industry publishes, even in the New England Journal of Medicine, should be viewed as an ADVERTISEMENT and nothing else.”
Prof. Peter Gotzsche, MD cofounded the Cochrane Collaboration in 1993.
It is a non-profit organization of scientists around the world who analyze data to try and figure out the truth about drugs and other health topics.
Prof. Peter Gotzsche, MD is the author of “Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare”
