Chewing gum containing nicotine and caffeine increases metabolism nearly 10 percent according to a recent study.
Twelve healthy men between the ages of 18 and 45 were given seven different combinations of nicotine and caffeine at different times and the thermogenic response was measured for the next two-and-a-half hours.Thermogenic Response
Thermogenic Response: Nicotine plus caffeine
Thermogenesis increased as follows:
- 0 mg of nicotine plus 0 mg of caffeine 0.0 percent
- 1 mg of nicotine plus 0 mg of caffeine 3.7 percent
- 2 mg of nicotine plus 0 mg of caffeine 4.9 percent
- 1 mg of nicotine plus 50 mg of caffeine 7.9 percent
- 2 mg of nicotine plus 50 mg of caffeine 6.3 percent
- 1 mg of nicotine plus 100 mg of caffeine 8.5 percent
- 2 mg of nicotine plus 100 mg of caffeine 9.8 percent
Effect of Adding Caffeine
Caffeine Doubles The Effect
Adding caffeine to nicotine doubles its thermogenic effect.
For example, 1 mg of nicotine increases thermogenesis by 3.7 percent, but adding 50 mg of caffeine raises thermogenesis by 7.9 percent; and 2 mg of nicotine raises thermogenesis by 4.9 percent, but adding 100 mg of caffeine increases it by 9.8 percent.
Caffeine, 50 mg vs 100 mg
50 mg of caffeine works as well as 100 mg
Increasing the dose of nicotine from 1 mg to 2 mg increased the thermogenic response, however, increasing the dose of caffeine from 50 mg to 100 mg did not add to effect according to the authors of the paper.
Increase in both fat and carbohydrate oxidation
There was not only an increase in fat oxidation (the amount of fat that is being burned), but also an increase in carbohydrate oxidation to a similar extent.
Side effects occurred when patients were given 2 mg of nicotine, but not 1 mg.
Conclusion: 1 mg of nicotine plus 50 mg of caffeine
Combining 1 mg of nicotine with 50 mg of caffeine may limit weight gain after a person stops smoking without side effects.
Note About Nicotine

I'm so sorry.
Is your daughter schizophrenic?
I am not a fan of anti-psychotic drugs such as Risperdal (Risperidone).
Abram Hoffer, MD, PhD discovered natural treatments that can help psychiatric conditions including schizophrenia.
He said that a good diet was essential.
He also had patients eliminate sugar.
I posted some videos about Dr. Hoffer's treatment on YouTube here:
