Tart cherry juice shortened the amount of time to fall asleep from 31 minutes to 21 minutes, and increases sleep time by 39 minutes according to a study of 10 men and 10 women.
Tart cherry juice contains melatonin.
Subjects consumed 2 Tablespoons (30 ml) of tart cherry juice within 30 minutes of wakening, and 30 minutes before the evening meal.
I do not understand the reasoning for this timing.
I would think that you would want to take it within an hour of going to bed.
