Antipsychotic drug weight gain in adolescents: Seroquel: 9 lbs in two months

The antipsychotic drug Seroquel (quetiapine) causes an average of weight gain of 9 pounds in two months according to recent study from the University of Miami School of Medicine.

The study involved fifteen adolescents 13-17 years old diagnosis of a psychotic disorder.

Common adverse effects were somnolence, agitation, drowsiness, and headache.

The final average dose was 467 mg per day, with a range of 300-800 mg per day.
