Chitosan causes an average weight loss of 3.7 pounds, or perhaps only 1.3 pounds, according to a new review of previous studies. 14 studies, 1131 people
Fourteen studies which included a total of 1131 people were analyzed.
Average weight loss from only high quality studies: 1.3 lbs
However, the “quality of many studies was sub-optimal”, and when their analysis was restricted only to studies that met a certain level of quality, were larger, or were longer, the average weight loss was only 1.3 pounds.
Conclusion: ‘Effect of chitosan on body weight is minimal’
“Results obtained from high quality trials indicate that the effect of chitosan on body weight is minimal and unlikely to be of clinical significance,” the authors concluded.
