    Less than 15 percent of children 5- to 15-years-old walk to or from school according to the Institute of Medicine's report on Childhood Obesity (2004, p. 39). Childen the same age walked to school only 12.5 percent of the time in 2001 compared to 20.2 percent in 1977. Only 31% living within one mile walked or biked to school even once during the previous week

    Among children who live within one mile of school, only 31 percent walked or biked to school at least once during the previous week.

    1% biked to school

    One percent of children rode a bicycle to school according to the report (2004, p. 39).
