LOW BACK PAIN IS MORE COMMON among overweight or large-waisted women, but not among overweight men according to a recent study.
Low back pain during the previous year was 20 percent more common among heavier women than the leaner women.
Heavier women were 50 percent more likely to have the pain for 3 months or longer and were 30 percent more likely to exhibit symptoms suggesting a herniated disc.
There was no significant differences among men of varying weights and body mass index.
Surprisingly, taller people also did not report back pain more often than the shorter people. The study looked at 5887 men and 7018 women ages 20 to 60-year-old.
