American Actress, Margot Kidder, tells how she was cured of manic-depression with Orthomolecular Medicine, that is using vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids -- things that are naturally present in the body to treat and cure disease.
In the audio clip, she tells how psychiatrists often tell patients they will never get well, and the best they can do is to manage their symptoms with drugs.
She notes that this is not a helpful message.
But she also warns people not to go home and throw their drugs out or they will end up in the hospital because you will experience drug withdrawal, so it needs to be done carefully.
Here is what Margot says in this audio clip.
“I expect there are a lot of consumers out there who have been to a lot of psychiatrist who have said you have something you cannot be cured from, but we can manage the symptoms with drugs.
“Whatever you do, don’t take the drugs, or you’ll be completely bonkers for the rest of your life.
“It’s not a helpful message.
“It’s absolutely devoid of hope.
“And if there’s anything one desperately needs when you are in the depths of despair, or in a psychotic break filled with frightening delusions, it’s hope.
“So to rob us of hope, as conventional psychiatrist have done for the last 20 or 30 years, is, to me, a great sin.
“... Anybody who’s on medication… you will hear stories… about getting well and [ getting off ] or lowering the dose of psychiatric drugs, but you cannot… it’s out of the question… you cannot go home this afternoon and throw your drugs out.
“Or you’ll end up in the [ hospital ] as sure as I’m standing here… and it’s happened to me.
“If you’ve been on them for any length of time at all, weeks even, you are addicted to them, and you will go into withdrawal.
“The withdrawal you will go into if you throw away your pharmaceutical drugs is generally psychotic, manic, or depressive episodes that will end you back in the hospital where often the psychiatrist will tell you, “See, you needed more of it.”
“The pharmaceutical industry calls this discontinuation syndrome, but I prefer to call things what they are — drug withdrawal.
“So please don’t go home and throw your drugs away.
“But I reiterate, you can get well, and you will be able to reduce [ your medication ]...
“One of the things about orthomolecular medicine is very different than just going to a psychiatrist and giving him some heightened position that he doesn’t really have and doing whatever he says, when you do orthomolecular psychiatry [with nutrients], you are responsible for your own wellness.”
