Men and women consuming them most marine omega-3 fatty acids 4% less likely to die over 26-32 yrs

Men and women in the top one-fifth for consuming the most marine omega-3 fatty acids (meaning from fish) were 4% less likely to die over the next 26-32 years compared to the one-fifth of men and women consuming the least according to a study from researchers at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Foods High in Marine Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Marine omega-3 fatty acids are found in high amounts in sardines, salmon, cod liver oil, mackerel, herring, caviar, roe (fish eggs) and trout.
Subjects: 83,349 women followed for 22 years, 42,884 men followed for 26 years
The study investigated 83,349 women from the Nurses’ Health Study (July 1, 1980, to June 30, 2012) and 42,884 men from the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (February 1, 1986, to January 31, 2012) who were free of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and types 1 and 2 diabetes at baseline.
“These findings support current dietary recommendations to replace saturated fat and trans-fat with unsaturated fats,” the authors of the study concluded.
