People drinking 16 ounces of water before meals reduced calorie intake 75 to 90 calories during that meal according to studies conducted by researchers from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA.
The study involved 24 overweight and obese adults with an average Body Mass Index of 34 and an average age of 61 years old who were given an standardized breakfast meal on two randomly assigned occasions and allowed to eat as much as they wanted to.
Thirty minutes before the meal, subjects were given either 16 ounces of water or not.
Energy intake at each meal was secretly measured.
