Teen boys who sleep 7 hours or less on weekdays weigh roughly 7 lbs more than those sleeping more than 7 hours according to a study by Radha Rao, MD, DeBakey of the VA Medical Center in Houston, Texas and others. BMI
BMI 3.8% higher in boys sleeping 7 hours or less
“Teen males who slept 7 hours or less on weekdays had an average BMI [body mass index] that was 3.8 percent higher than those who slept more than 7 hours,” the Press Release notes.
This is equal to roughly 7 lbs in a boy who is 5-feet-10 inches tall.
