The risk of ischemic stroke is 1.8 times greater ( 75% greater ) for women with a body mass index (BMI) of 27 to 28.9 compared to lean women with a BMI of less than 21 according to data from the Nurses' Health Study. Subjects
Subjects: 116,759 women aged 30 to 55 years
The Nurses’s Health study involved 116,759 women aged 30 to 55 years in 1976 who were free from diagnosed coronary heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
The followup for this study was 16 years.
