People drinking 17 ounces (500 ml) of water thirty minutes before meals lost 2.7 pounds more after three months than those who did not drink the water according to a recent study conducted in Birmingham, England.
This was after adjusting for ethnicity, age and gender.
The group drinking water lost an average of 5.3 lbs versus 2.6 lbs in the control group.
(Some people did not preload with water three times a day as instructed, but instead only preloaded with water only once or twice a day.)
Those who were most compliant lost an average of 9.5 lbs
Those who preloaded with water three (3) times a day lost an average of 9.5 lbs compared to only 1.8 lbs for those who preloaded with water only once a day or none at all.
