Infants 3 to 5 months old were 5-times more likely to die if they had received both the Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTP) vaccine and the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) than infants of the same age who had not been vaccinated according to a 2017 study of an urban African community by Danish researchers.
Infants 3 to 5 months old were 10-times more likely to die if they had received only the Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTP) vaccine, and not the Oral Polio Vaccine.
(In other words, giving the oral polio vaccine along with the DTP vaccine seemed to reduce the negative effects of the DTP vaccine.)
“All currently available evidence suggests that DTP vaccine may kill more children from other causes than it saves from diphtheria, tetanus or pertussis,” the authors of the study concluded.
